Bamboo car featured in Abra festival -- Bamboo or kawayan was the star of the show in a festival held recently in the province of Abra.

Various products made of bamboo and sugar cane were showcased during the province's Kawayan Festival.

Among those featured were fans, hats, baskets, bags, tables and chairs, and even a car all made out of bamboo.

Guests had a chance to taste foods and wines made of sugarcane.

And what's a Filipino festival without singing and dancing? Young Abra residents danced to music made from instruments made of bamboo.

Business management students from the Divine Word College in Bangued presented their balinkutsa and basi made from sugarcane.

As a result of the festival's success, the provincial government of Abra is mulling holding a big trade fair to promote the province's various products.

A trade fair recently held at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City also featured products made from Abra. Producers earned almost P12 million in sales.
Residents of Abra are expecting a bigger production this year as more manufacturers turn to machines to boost productivity. ( abs-cbnnews.com)
